What is Communicator?
Communicator is a Carrier-Class hosted telephony network-based multi-office solution designed to satisfy the SME market place. In particular, those that are multi-site businesses. It offers powerful features to reduce your total costs and improve the productivity and image of your business.
For ease of installation the handsets connect to CAT5e sockets so you only need one set of infrastructure cabling and for resilience purposes, Power over Ethernet (POE) can be deployed to the handsets.
Communicator operates over an ADSL or SDSL broadband connection. Normally a dedicated broadband circuit is provisioned to support the service and to ensure there are no collision issues with your IP data traffic.
Its Plug and Play technology means that installation is quick and cost effective and your existing telephone numbers can be ported onto the service. Communicator has been specifically designed to have an easy to use interface, enabling quick navigation to functions, via homepage shortcuts and a navigation bar at the top of each page. Furthermore, the Web Interface provides help facilities accessible from each page, either via the navigation bar or dedicated icons opening specific help content. Some of Communicator's features are listed below :-
Voicemail
Each Communicator user gets a fully featured customisable voicemail with remote access for playback of messages and re-recording of greetings.
Auto-Attendant
Each user can define and control their own multi layered auto attendant to ensure that calls are always routed to the correct user
Hot Desking
Walk up to any Communicator handset -enter your PIN number and the features are 'downloaded' to that handset -no matter which of your companies sites you are located at. That's the way a 'follow me' service should work!
Remote 'Sites'
As the functionality of Communicator is not held within a PBX in your office you can add extensions to the systems easily and cost effectively. No longer restricted by the PBX's limitations you can redesign the way you work. A Communicator handset at home works just like the one in the office - as does the handset in an office in another country! The flexibility is endless.
PBX features
All the usual PBX features are included as well as multi layered administration rights so Administrators can control the set up of handsets etc. Users can configure one touch buttons, print new handset labels, upload speed dial lists, transfer calls internally and externally and hold conference calls
Dynamic Features
The Phone Manager can be configured to include a dynamic set of features for each subscriber, for situations in which some users may have access to certain functions (e.g. Follow Me) while others do not.
Real-Time Updates
When users update any of their preferences, the changes to their extension take place in real time.
Login and Authentication
The Phone Manager is highly secure and only available to authorised users. Consequently, users need to enter their phone number and PIN in order to access the application, presenting them with their associated services profile. Secure silent login is also available, so that users can directly access the Phone Manager without performing explicit login each time.
Directory
Communicator offers a company wide directory. Searches can be conducted via first name or surname, in addition to an overall view of all users also being available. Each individual entry includes the user’s full name, extension number, external number, fax number .
Groups
The Groups page of the Phone Manager enables users of Communicator to activate/ deactivate their status in Hunt Groups that they belong to, in accordance with their availability. Additionally, via this page users who are in several Pickup Groups can prioritise which extension they pick up if more than one of their Pickup Groups rings at the same time.
Black List
The Black List function in the Phone Manager enables users to screen calls, controlling who they are available for. Users simply add a phone number to their Black List in order to ensure that all calls from that number are blacklisted immediately.
